1 Timothy 6:17-19"Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on GOD, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed." NASB
Following is a letter Tim received in the mail Thursday afternoon.
Dear Pastor Tim:
This is one of those letters we enjoy sending from time to time to encourage the work of ministers like you. Earlier this year, the Foundation was approached by an individual who wanted to financially assist Northwest pastors. While we can't assist everyone, the Director of Mission(s) provided several names of pastors that we might bless with this gift.
Enclosed you will find a check for you to use at your discretion. These funds are to be spent for your personal use. This is not a gift to your church; it is a gift to you.
We thank you for your ministry and service to our churches here in the Northwest. The Foundation is honored to be a part of the generosity of this donor and we pray this small monetary gift will be a blessing to you and your family.
It was then signed by the president of the Foundation.
WOW!!! What a blessing. What a HUGE blessing.
September 1, 2007, our family made a commitment to get out of debt. Tim and I listened to Dave Ramsey's The Total Money Makeover on audio book (recommended to us by my very cool
sister-in-law.) We were both challenged and convicted. We were motivated...and we still are. In just under 9 months, we have paid off more than $19,000 in debt. Yes, that is a big, fat $19,000!!!
Many sacrifices have been made by each and every family member. No birthday presents, no Christmas presents, not eating out, no camping trips (well, except in our
backyard), no unnecessary food (chips, cookies, syrup...etc.), no extras. Period. We have even made sacrifices by selling things near and dear to us. The kids have handled this so maturely and without complaints. That in itself is a huge blessing. Kids that don't complain about no birthday presents...we have been truly blessed.
Along this journey, we have endless accounts of how God has used others to bless us in our decision to get out of debt.
Some have given food
Others have given of their time
Some have encouraged us with their words
Others have continuously prayed for us
Some have given us change for our "debt bomb"
Others have given us money
I am so thankful for my husband whose Godly leadership has taken us down this road. His guidance and direction are so encouraging.
I am so thankful for our children who have chosen to join us in our efforts and who have done so with grateful hearts and joyful attitudes.
I am so thankful for our family and friends, and now the Foundation, who have helped us in huge ways.
I am so thankful for Dave Ramsey (and Cari) who have helped educate us in the area of finances.
I am most thankful to God for leading us in this direction and for His continuous help in every step of the way. His love for His children, our family, is so awesomely evident.
