To The Library with the Lucas Boy

>> Monday, May 12, 2008

This weeks Homeschool Hi-Light was a trip to the library with Lucas. He was able, for the first time, to pick out books that he can read all by himself. We came home with quite the stack. He went a bit overboard because he was excited about using his own library card. Because he had his own card, we (I mean he) checked out several books that he can read to me and several that can be read to him.

While he was busy looking at books and playing on the library computer, I came across a great history DVD series. The DVDs target grades 5-8 (ages 10-14). Both Cayla and Matthew were able to watch it and learned a lot from it. It was fun (and educational) for them because it lined up with what they were reading in their normal history curriculum.

It's so great that your son was able to check out his own library books. My two little girls think that's such a big deal to do.

Wow, great job Lucas! :) Genevieve loves the library too. She cries if we are making a quick stop at the library, and she thinks that she won't be getting a book. (She will walk around "reading," and has been know to run into walls!) :)

I gave you the "E for Excellent Blog Award!" Stop by my blog to see: www.frugalgranola.blogspot.com.

Blessings,

Oh, the bliss of one's own library card! And sitting undisturbed while perusing one's most recent selections once home...aahh, the memories of childhood librarical exploration for the next favorite. *sniff*

That is so wonderful! As soon as all of my children began learning to read, we went to the library and got them their own library cards. It was such a special time and memory!
