FOR TODAY

August 11, 2008

Outside My Window...our garden is growing abundantly. Today we were able to harvest 1 zucchini, 1 yellow squash, 1 burpless cucumber and 100 or so mini carrots. I will post a picture soon.

I am thinking...that the New York Strip Steak and Velveeta and Shells I had for dinner was mighty fine. Although I am so full I could explode. Tim and I played a very, very long game and the deal was loser had to go to Fischers, buy steaks, and cook them. Guess who lost? Hmmm? Yep, me. Surprise, surprise. But I must say I did grill a mean steak.

I am thankful for...childhood memories. Some bad memories, but many, many great memories. All of them, whether good or bad, helped shape me into the person I am today.

From the kitchen...is a recipe for zucchini bread for tomorrow's breakfast. I will use our freshly picked zucchini and Azure Standard's Whole Wheat Pastry Flour. I am just learning to cook with this, so I am hoping it turns out delicious.

I am wearing...jammy pants and Cabela's tee.

I am creating...a homemade cookbook. I am taking all my recipes and placing them in a 3-ring binder. I am hopeful that this will help me be a bit more organized.

I am going...to start mentally preparing for school. We are going to get started soon and so I need to get some things going. It usually goes better if I have a plan of action.

I am reading...nothing at the moment.

I am hoping...to be served coffee and a diet Pepsi at 7:00 A.M sharp. I'll be ready to play cribbage. Tim, are you available?

I am hearing...music, the clickety-clack of my keyboard and the faint sound of the kids outside.

Around the house...the radio is playing softly. Larah is in bed, Justin is at work, and Tim and the other children are outside playing ball.

One of my favorite things...is seeing how God works. We had a serious situation come up in our family this week and it is so amazing to see God's fingerprint on every detail. Life would be easier if we didn't have problems arise, but then when would we see God in action? He IS good.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...There isn't one thing on the calendar. I can't believe it. This should give me plenty of time to get organized for school. Maybe I could even talk Tim in to taking me to the Bean Tree for our 2 free drinks.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...
This is a picture (taken last Thursday) of our family emptying rocks out of our debt jar. On September 1st of 2007 we filled the glass jar with rocks. Every rock represents $10 worth of debt. In just under a year, we have been able to pay off over $22,000 in debt, allowing the removal of over 2200 rocks. Praise God for his provisions.

Sister, sister, sister, don't make deals when your playing cards with Tim, you know you will end up cooking. Oh yeah by the way, I'm still waiting for that card game to end so you can call me back.

Amy,
Would you believe we didn't get done with the game until 7:30 our time? Too late to call you! I was trying to win, and I think I did pretty good, but in the end he defeated me. He called me Second Place all evening. But it was worth it...I got a steak out of the deal.
Love,
Your Schilly Schister

I love your family!
"Plus" on tearing into that debt bomb...I guess it's really "minus" in this case, huh?
I'm praying for you.
I REALLY miss your family.

Have you noticed that you are still in July? Your Schilly Schister must be distraught waiting ALL that time to get a call from you!

Great idea about the cookbook.
I am going to try and create one for our girls because they keep calling me for our old family recipes.
Wonderful about the decreasing debt bomb :)
Praise God :)
Miss you alllllllllll

Thanks Kendra. I have moved forward now.

I love this idea, and I'm gonna talk to the hubby about using it for our family. He recently had us start putting all our $1 bills in a jar, and they add up fast! Every time we use cash and get change, we're not allowed to spend the $1s. We got about $70 in one month. It also cut down on our "nickel and dime" expenditures!
