Confessions of an Accidental Thief

Today Sam, Cayla, and I made a trip to town. Cayla had an orthodontist appointment, so I took the opportunity to do our February monthly grocery shopping while spending quality time with my oldest daughter and youngest son. We had a great day together...laughing, talking girlie talk (sorry Sam), petting homeless animals, listening/singing to music, shopping, making memories.
While in town we stopped off at Kaija's...one of Cayla's all-time favorite places to be. It is a store that sells fish, birds, cats, plants, and all the stuff that goes with such hobbies. To Cayla, Kaija's is heaven on earth. After getting some meal worms for her pet, Paprika, and spending time looking at every single fish at least 32 times, we departed the store and made plans for our next stop. I had put the car in reverse when I looked down at the meal worms, only to realize I had walked out of Kaija's without paying for them. I went back into the store and apologized to the store clerk for leaving with unpaid merchandise. He was impressed that I had made the choice to pay for the meal worms instead of driving off...as if I had any other choice. Thievery Act #1: a $2.99 container of meal worms.
We did our Costco shopping, ate pizza for lunch, visited the East Lewis County Animal Shelter, and then headed on over to Walmart. I finished up our shopping, paid for our groceries and household items, walked out to the car, and tried to organize my already overflowing trunk. I got Baby Sam out of the shopping cart and into his car seat....only to realize that once again I had walked out of the store without paying for an item. So back in to Walmart I went, with my head hanging low, laughing at myself, wondering why I do such silly things. Thievery Act #2: a $3.47 delinter roll.
We arrived home a bit before 7:00. The older boys unloaded the car for me. I emptied every bag and took inventory. I am happy to report that I can, in good conscience, go to bed knowing that all items that entered our home tonight are paid for.
Thank you, Lord, for a good day. Thank you for valuable time spent with two of my favorite people. Thank you for days and situations where I can laugh at myself. You are a good God and I love you.
