We're Getting Chickens
>> Wednesday, May 06, 2009
Yesterday and today the men in my life have been building our new chicken coop. They worked together as a team and the final project was completed this evening. The only expense we endured during the whole project was the chicken wire. The wood was either given to us by our neighbors or was scraps that we have collected over the years. Tim will go tomorrow and purchase some baby chicks. We are going to get between 6-8. Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, and Aracauna are a few from which we will chose. We are going to concentrate on good egg layers. (Our family can go through some eggs!) All Walkers are very excited about our new endeavor. We have never had chickens before but we look forward to learning as we go. Here are a few pictures I took during the project.

The chicken coop turned out nice. What a great family project. I wish you much success on your new venture!
That is awesome sister! How cool, I think Alex will be highly impressed. She told me yesterday that she wished we had bought a house with land so she could have farm animals. They did an AWESOME job at building it.
Looks a little too nice for chickens. Tonya reports that you need to watch out for CROWS. I had never heard that one, but she reports that some crows killed a few of their chickens. Tim was making a roof to the chicken pen at last report. She said she knew about raccoons, oppossums and such, but not the crows. Just thought I would pass it on since I am thinking about it.
I hope you love your chickens and they lay more than your family can consume...we love farm fresh eggs...um...just a hint...
Yes, Lucas looks very good in that picture. Keep in mind that I have 5 daughters for him to choose from!
I have a couple of chickies to add to that coop full of adorable little girls! LOL! Why didn't we think of that sooner?
Great project. Who can't use more eggs.
Yippee! I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy mine! one of ours has been sitting! :o) I am hoping for some baby chicks in a month or so!
