FOR TODAY Outside My Window...the sun is trying to shine through the clouds. It looks as though it is going to be a beautiful day.
Tim's Incredibly Delicious Homemade Bread
FOR TODAY
Tim's Incredibly Delicious Homemade BreadThe date is July 5, 2004. My contractions begin just around 8:30 AM. Tim and I get the kids lined out and then head to our midwife's office. This is my first pregnancy and delivery with a midwife. I am so excited and yet at the same time so scared.
We arrive at Laura's and my contractions are definitely stronger. With the help of Tim and encouragement from Laura, I decide to take advantage of her jetted bathtub. Incredible relief. I stay in there for some time...waiting for the moment when I get the urge to push. The urge comes. Tim helps me out, I put on a shirt, and walk slowly to the bed. I lay on the bed and begin to push. And push. And push. Intense pain. Major, intense pain. Severe, major, intense pain. I cry out and tell them that I cannot do this. It hurts. I'm scared. Laura, in her gentle and calm voice, reassures me that I can (and will) and explains to me that our baby won't be born until I surrender my body to the pain. She explains to me the definition of surrender and it all makes complete sense. Seconds later Katie Jane Walker is out of my womb and in my arms.
Fast forward 4 years. The date is July 21, 2008. I take a pregnancy test and it comes back positive. Oh the emotions that rush over me. I can't wait to tell Tim and yet I am reluctant. We are having lunch at George Fox University when I pull out the pregnancy test and show him, tears streaming down my face. I am so excited and yet at the same time so scared.
Weeks go by. I know I am pregnant. I know I have a child growing inside of me. I know that this child is a gift from our Creator God. But I am scared. I am scared to accept that I am pregnant. I am scared to be excited. I am scared to love another child and have it taken from me. I don't want to lose another baby. I don't want to face another death. I don't want to add another name to the list. I don't want to surrender.
But I have no options. I have no choice. I have to give this child back to God. I have to give up my desires and dreams and rest in His care. I have to surrender. I am in process. Surrender is scary. I have no control. I have no answers. But I do serve a God who does and He is faithful. My hope is that He chooses to give this baby life outside the womb. My hope is that this baby is a boy and that we can welcome him into our family in March of 2009. My hope is that the words Laura spoke some 4 years ago will become easier with time. My hope is that I will surrender to the pain.
My hope is in Jesus Christ.

FOR TODAY
Cayla is our resident smoothie maker. She makes up her own recipes and writes them down in a notebook. She is hoping to one day produce her own Smoothie Cookbook. She made this particular smoothie for her papa.

After comparing fingernail lengths,
conversation between Cayla and Lucas led to wondering who has the longest. So we did some research online at Guinness World Records and thought we would share the info with you.
This is Lee Redmond from Holloway, Salt Lake City. She has not cut her fingernails since 1979. The total length of her nails is 24ft 7.8 in. Absolutely amazing.
I wonder what she thinks of those of us who have the bad habit of biting our nails.
If you are the owner of one of those fancy self cleaning ovens, I have a piece of advice for you. Maybe you already know this and for you this piece of advice will be a big, fat DUH! But there are those of us out there who are just a bit slower than the rest. Before you read on, please know I did actually looked for the book that comes with the oven so I could read the directions on how to use the self cleaner. But somehow it has mysteriously disappeared from the bottom filing cabinet drawer. Go figure. So I took it upon myself to get this job done. Not just done, but done with style.
I pulled everything from the oven before locking the door and hitting the self cleaning button. About 20 minutes into the cycle, smoke came billowing out from under all 4 burners. The kitchen was filled with nasty, thick smoke omitting a stench that no one should ever have to smell.
You see, my dear, darling son decided to buy the family dinner the other night. He purchased pizza and burritos. He cooked the pizza first, then the burritos. What he failed to realize was that the burritos needed to be on a cookie sheet. One thing lead to another and 1/2 of each burrito ended up on the bottom of the oven. Now fast forward 3 days.
There were these disgusting piles of burrito bean on the bottom of my oven. Most of you would know the importance of wiping them away before hitting the clean button. But no, not me. I had to leave them. As if this was some science project or something. "Class...to what temperature do we need to bring the oven before we can all die of smoke inhalation? I don't know...but let's find out."
And so my simple, yet immensely important piece of advice...clean out any remnant of food before starting the self cleaning cycle. Three hours later my eyes still burn, my nostrils hurt, I can't quit sneezing and my house reeks.
FOR TODAY
Justin is a working man now. He recently was offered a job at our local grocery store, Fischers. He started his new position as courtesy clerk this past Monday and is working about 30-35 hours a week. He absolutely loves it. (Could that possibly have anything to do with the fact that A.J. is employed there also?) I must say it is quite different with him not around the homefront so much. Him being gone is going to take some getting used to.
Since Justin doesn't have his license yet, he is dependant on Mom and Dad for transportation. Today, on our way to his newly acquired job, he spoke these words to me. Words that every mom would love to hear. Words that were (and still are) music to my ears. And he spoke them with such sincerity. "Mom, let me take this moment to thank you for allowing me to get this job. I couldn't have done it without you." I sat there in the drivers seat just glowing. I kept repeating the words over and over in my head..."I couldn't have done it without you"..."I couldn't have done it without you"..."I couldn't have done it without you." WOW! In that moment I felt so loved, cherished, and appreciated...and that is a fantastic feeling.
FOR TODAY I am ready to be in bed, but my kids are outside playing hide & seek and I don't have the heart to tell them to come in yet. They have been couped up in the house for two days while I was away, so they deserve some time to exert some bound up energy. I just poured me a diet Pepsi and lit a candle which means this could be a long night. Diet Pepsi, a candle and blogging...3 things I love. I might be up til midnight.
Now...about the blog entry entitled Just An Update. That was a complete mistake. But I have really enjoyed the results. Nine comments were made without me writing a single word. Friday, July 25 @ 6:14 AM I sat down at my computer to write a post. I started with the title. Then Larah woke up with a poopy diaper and I lost all concentration. (Overnight pee and morning poop might be the worst smell ever!!!) What I failed to realize was that I had already hit the enter key which posted my title. I didn't have time to delete it right then. When I got back on later to delete the lonely title, two people had already left comments. So I just left it. And I must say, you commentors (is that a word?) are very funny people.
Now...about this new life growing inside of me. I found out last Monday that we are going to have a baby. Due Date~March 17, 2009. Praise God. Let me ask you a question...well, those of you who have ever taken a pregnancy test. Have you ever taken a pregnancy test in a Goodwill Store? Well, I never imagined I would have either but that is how it worked out. Yep, I bought the test at Rite Aid and headed on over to the Goodwill. After I shopped for about 5 minutes, I had this sudden urge to go to the bathroom. Gee, I wonder why? Once in the stall, I ripped open the test and peed on the stick. The results appeared instantly. I had to wait 2 very, very long hours before I was able to tell Tim. And now that I stop to think about it, I don't think I told him where and when I took the test.
Now...about these last two days. They have been wonderful. I left yesterday about 1:30 and headed on down to Newburg/Tigard, OR to spend the night with my honey. A friend let me borrow her car, so I had a comfy ride complete with sunroof, air conditioning and a 6 CD changer. I felt spoiled. I didn't ask to borrow the car, but she insisted and I didn't argue. Thank you, Wanda. Anyway, Tim and I were able to spend some much needed one on one time together. Last night we ordered in pizza and watched 4 episodes of Law and Order. Then we hit the sack. Today we got up and headed to the coast. We went to Lincoln City and walked on the beach. We ate lunch at Mo's and shopped at the Tanger Outlet Mall. I scored 3 lovely pairs of socks from Bass. After that we went back to Tigard and went furniture shopping. I fell in love with a couch, a double chair and ottoman. New furniture is so pricey, so I don't know if we'll get them, but it was fun shopping...especially with Tim. He makes any kind of shopping fun. We had to say good bye about 3:30, but he will be home on Saturday and Saturday can't come soon enough.
Now...about this song. I heard it on my way home tonight and it reminded me of my time away with Tim. Love Needs a Holiday by Reba. I can't embed it so hopefully you can click here and listen to it. Both the song and video are perfect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0U4LNKaEgY
Now...about going to bed. I am as good as there. Good night.
My friend, Patty Ann, tagged me. I am to tell 6 random things about myself and then tag 6 more people. Here it goes:
Random Thing #1: When we were kids, my big brother used to call me Rebazooka. I wonder if he remembers that. He used to call me something else, but I would never allow that nickname to be public information...only a handful of people know. But I'll give you a hint: the initials are BBB. Anyway, when picking out my email address several years ago, I was certain that rebazooka@yahoo.com would be available. Guess what? It was. And that, my friends, is how I got my email address.
Random Thing #2: I got something for Tim today. I was willing to pay for it, but the kind lady gave it to me for free. That's a cool story I'll have to save for a post of its own. I have wanted to get this for him for years, but never have. I don't even know if he'll like it, but I do and isn't that what counts?
Random Thing #3: I have a variety of music in my CD holder. Here are a few examples:
Yaz-Upstairs at Eric's
Lonestar-Let's Be Us Again
Dolly Parton-The Essential
Yanni-Live at the Acropolis
Big Daddy Weave-Everytime I Breath
Celtic Psalms
Kenny G-Live
George Strait-50 Number Ones
Micheal Bolton-The Essential
Rich Mullins and The Ragamuffin Band-The Jesus Record
Passion-Our Love is Loud
Vivaldi's Cello
Several CD's of Twila Paris, Fernando, Kathy Troccoli and Susie Luchsinger
Oh yeah, and George Winston-December (...mmmmmmmm)
Random Thing #4: I had my first ever pedicure Thanksgiving 2007. A friend of mine took me to have it done as a belated birthday gift. It was absolutely wonderful. To see a picture of my happy feet, click here. Now for the sad news...I haven't done a thing to my toes since then. My big toes still have old, nasty nail polish on them. Can you say GROSS?
Random Thing #5: Sometimes I can be really, really, really ugly.
Random Thing #6: Tonight I drank a Sobe Lean Green Tea with these herbal contents: citrimax, chromium, ginseng, and guarana. I enjoyed it, but don't think I will purchase one in the near future.
I am tagging:
Amy at The Burrow Family
Alex at Alex's Blog
Kendra at Heath Happenings
Kacey at The Journey of a Woman of God
Barbara at Untitled
Caleb at Caleb's Cool Inventions
And here are the rules:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post.
5. Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.
FOR TODAYJust a few minutes ago I was in my room getting dressed, complaining to my oldest daughter about my loss of hair...about how hard it is to get old...about how hard it is to accept the fact that my body is changing. I was crying out for some encouragement and comforting words. I was longing for her to wrap her arms around me and tell me how beautiful I am and always will be. But what I got (from my cold, heartless daughter...the one I carried inside of me for 9 months and went through hours and hours of pain to bring into this world) was quite the opposite. These are the words she had to offer me: "Mom, you're not old." Then she looks a little closer to my face and says..."Well, you do have some wrinkles. Oh no, wait. Those aren't wrinkles...that's just your double chin."
I love blogging. Betcha' didn't know that about me, huh? One of the best things about blogging is meeting other women who love the Lord and are passionate about their husbands and children. There are those blogs I check occasionally, and then there are the ones I check daily, sometimes two or three times a day. The daily blogs are written by women who I feel as though we have a connection. They may be my neighbor or they may live miles and miles away, but whatever the location, we share a common bond. One such lady is Christina at All That Blog. We haven't been blogging friends long, but I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her and her family through her blog. Last week, while my computer was down, she presented me with an award, the Arte y pico. I feel blessed and am so very appreciative. Part of receiving the award is a commitment to pass it on to 5 other women of my choosing. So here are the five women I have prayerfully chosen:
Amy at The Burrow Family. Not only is she my sister in Christ, but she is my real life schilly, schilly schister. We grew up together and have shared some of the best times of our lives with each other. She lives in Texas, with her husband and 3 gorgeous children, and I live in Washington, with my husband and 6 gorgeous children, so we don't get to visit as often as either one of us would like. But she has recently started her own blog, and I am so very, very thankful. I get a glimpse into her life, even if it's over the Internet. Amy, keep the pictures coming...they bring me all that much closer to you and yours.
Sharon at In My Father's Garden. This one might be a bit questionable because Sharon has just recently started her blog. So recently she hasn't even written her first post. But I know Sharon and I have confidence that her blog will be worthy of an award. Sharon loves the Lord with all of who she is and I know His presence will be felt by everyone who visits In My Father's Garden. Now how's that for pressure to perform, Sharon???
Megan at Me Growing and Learning. I first met Megan when she was just a kid, years and years ago, and I haven't seen her since. But we became connected through my sister-in-law's blog and now I am a faithful reader of her blog and she is of mine. I can always count on a comment from Megan. Megan is a beautiful young lady who desires to walk with her Heavenly Father. She loves Him so much and is successfully following the path He is taking her down. Her blog is full of life and she is not afraid to share the deep places of her heart. I appreciate Megan because of her honesty and openness.
Michele at Frugal Granola. I would consider Michele and I to be very different, and yet, I have grown to absolutely love her. She inspires me...one~to be more healthy and two~to become better organized. One thing Michele and I do have in common, though, is our love for the Lord and for our families. She is a wonderful wife and an incredible mother. There has been talk about her and her family moving closer in the future and I look forward to that day. There is so much wisdom and knowledge I desire to glean from her.
Cayla at Cayla's Creative Writings. I saved the best for last. Cayla is my 11-year old daughter who is amazingly beautiful, inside and out. Cayla loves Jesus with all her heart and she is such a great encouragement to me. I have the awesome priviledge of being her mama and watching her everyday grow into the person that Christ is forming her to be. I love to listen to her pray and it thrills me to see her desire to serve God with everything that she is. Her blog is a reflection of His love and the love she has for her family and friends.
That completes my list of 5 people. It was hard to decide who to pick because I love every single blog I frequent. Thank you all for being a blessing to me. For you 5, here are a list of rules:
Rules:
1) You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserving of this award, be it through creativity, design, or interesting material, and that also contributes to the blogger community, no matter the language.
2) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.
3) Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award.
4) Award winners and the one who has given the award have to show the link of "Arte y pico" blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award.
5) Show these rules.
Have a great and marvelous day in Christ.
