THE SIMPLE WOMAN’S DAYBOOK
FOR TODAY

April 20, 2009

Outside My Window...The sun is shining and it is 83.3 degrees. We are enjoying a bright blue sky and a soft, gentle wind. Our plum tree is in bloom and my tulips are about to show some color. It is a wonderful spring day here in the great Northwest.

I am thinking...that my husband is so very cool. He set up the tent and is sleeping in it tonight with Lucas and Cayla. What a fun papa!!!

From the learning rooms…the kids did school today. I think they were hoping to get one more week off, in honor and celebration of Samuel's arrival in our home, but I decided we needed to get back into routine. It was hard for all of us, but we did it.

I am thankful for...toothpaste. I mean really...have you ever stopped to think about how gross life would be without toothpaste?

From the kitchen...BEEF, BEEF, and more BEEF!!! Praise the Lord!!!!!!!

I am wearing...a short sleeve shirt, capris, and my crocs. Hair up in a ponytail.

I am creating...an online album of Baby Sam. I hope to get pictures developed at WalMart so I can place them in the really cool scrapbook I received at my baby shower.

I am going...to enjoy eating dinner tonight. BEEF...it's what's for dinner. And I say once again...Praise the Lord!!!

I am reading...nothing at the moment.

I am hoping...that our family is able to go here over Thanksgiving. If we do, we will be meeting up with Josh, Kathy, and Johnathan....Philip, Cari, Landen, Luke, Ardyn, Ashlin, Mari Alice, and Baby Girl Johnson...James...and Mom. I get excited just thinking about it.

I am hearing...the hum of my computer, Fernando Ortega on my stereo and the tractor. I love having my windows open and hearing the tractor....that means the garden is soon to grow.

Around the house...all things are calm and peaceful.

One of my favorite things...my hugging pillow.

A few plans for the rest of the week...school with the kids, a trip out town with Sam and Kendra, write and send some thank you notes, other than that just be home!

A Walker Update

Samuel is sleeping in his carseat (soon to awake)...Justin is at his place of employment...Lucas is napping...and Tim, my incredible man, took the other children on a stroll down to the creek. Katie is pedalin' her trike, Matthew and Cayla are walkin' and Tim and Larah are enjoying a ride on Dot. My time on the computer is sure to be short so I'll just give a quick and somewhat random Walker update. Here goes...

~Samuel Isaiah Walker is great. He is almost 3 weeks old. We all enjoy having a new baby in the house. I have learned that he does not like chocolate. He has had BAD cases of gas and a major breakout on his cute, round, kissable little face. So no mo' chocolate for this mama.

~Cayla played her first ever piano solo at church on Easter Sunday. She did awesome. I am amazed at her natural ability and passion for her newly found talent. I wish I would have taken my camera with me to snap a shot.

~Uncle James is coming for a visit in May before he makes his big transition to Colorado. We all look forward to some time spent with him...even if he might be a bit D-U-M (dumb for those of you who know how to spell! Love you James!)!!!

~May 15-23 the Washington Walkers will be spending time with close friends camping in Prineville, OR. To see pictures of our last Prineville camping trip and the fun that was had by all, click here. ***Kacey and Anders...how much fun will you two be having in comparison to last trip? Just curious???

~I just recently received an invitation to my 20 year high school reunion. WOW ~ I have been out of high school for 20 years. Doesn't seem possible.

~Our family has been abundantly blessed with meals every other day since the birth of Samuel. There is a dear, sweet lady in our congregation who makes sure we are well fed. She called everyone in our church and made sure that they deliver us a meal. These meals are scheduled to continue until the second week in May. We are soooo blessed and I am soooo thankful....and I am sooooo not losing any pregnancy weight!

~Well my time on the computer is done. I miss Bloggerville and keeping up with all my bloggy friends. I think I have forgotten how busy life with a new baby can be. Hopefully soon I will return to normal...if there is such a thing.

Outside my window...the wind is blowing, the sun has set, and there is evidence of spring all around us...daffodils, tulips, singing birds, blooming rhododendrons…

I am thinking...that the happiest people in life don’t have the best of everything. They make the best of everything they have.

From the learning rooms…we have been on spring break, extended spring break, family-from-Texas break, and baby break. We are finally going to start back tomorrow. It will be hard to get back into routine, but hopefully it will go smoothly.

I am thankful for...today...a day spent in Longview with Tim, Larah and Baby Sam. We did shopping, had lunch with friends, and took Baby Sam to an appointment.

From the kitchen...we were blessed with dinner from a friend. She brought Mexican Casserole, Chicken and Rice, rolls and a plate full of cinnamon rolls. DELICIOUS!!! Justin and Matthew are currently on clean up duty.

I am wearing...capris, Cabela’s tee and my comfy New Balance running shoes. It is so wonderful to be back into my normal clothes.

I am creating...this Daybook entry. Pretty original, huh?

I am going...to spend eternity with Jesus Christ!!!

I am reading...I haven’t started them yet, but I received two new books in the mail today from Vision Forum. One is called The Backyard Homestead and the other is called Just In Case…How To Be Self-Sufficient When The Unexpected Happens. I am looking forward to reading them and putting the knowledge I glean from them to practice.

I am hoping...that Cayla doesn’t have to go back to the dentist in two weeks to get a tooth pulled.

I am hearing...my children. HELP...they have overtaken my kitchen.

Around the house...is clutter from a day in the home of the Walkers. Laundry, toys, papers, blankets, books…and the list goes on.

Outside My Window...the sky is grey and I can hear my children playing happily.

I am thinking...our time with Josh, Kathy and Johnathan passed too quickly. They were here and now they’re gone.

From the learning rooms…we are on Baby Break!

I am thankful for...my husband. He is so busy with life, yet always finds the time to be a wonderful husband and father.

From the kitchen...waffles for breakfast, grilled hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch. Not too sure what is on for dinner…..probably left over Pasta e Fagioli. Thanks, Cari, for the recipe. It was delicious and one that has been added to my list of favorites.

I am wearing...my “very sexy” purple maternity dress.

I am creating...not too much these days!

I am going...to give birth soon. I know I am!!! I know I am!!! I know I am!!!

I am reading...the newest edition of No Greater Joy.

I am hoping...to give birth soon. I am hoping!!! I am hoping!!! I am hoping!!! (I'm only 6 days overdue.)

I am hearing…my washing machine, Cayla’s bird chirping merrily from the bedroom, and the kiddos playing out back.

Around the house…we are patiently awaiting the arrival of Baby Sam. Did I say patiently???

Outside My Window...the temperature is 41 degrees, the winds are blowing and the rain is coming down. Dreary, dreary day in the big town of Randle.

I am thinking...how blessed we are to have so many friends and family praying for us and the birth of Samuel. We are surrounded by a genuine love like I have never known before.

From the learning rooms...a continued Spring Break.

I am thankful for...my oldest daughter Cayla. We were able to spend some one on one time together this afternoon and it was much needed. She is a beautiful young lady and I count it an honor to be her mom. And for those of you who know her and know her long hair...she donated 11 inches to Locks of Love today.

From the kitchen...Matthew and Larah made crepes for dinner. Matthew took the time to teach her how to crack eggs...although he says she still needs practice. I am amazed at how patient he is with her. While the crepes were cooking, he gave her "Break Dancing" lessons. I'm thinking they had a pretty good time bonding in the kitchen.

I am wearing...black capris, Costco socks, a short sleeve shirt with a long sleeve denim shirt over it and my hair is styling up in a clip.

I am creating...nuttin' much these days.

I am going...to give birth soon. I know I am!!! I know I am!!! I know I am!!!

I am reading...the same thing that I have been reading the last few weeks...Mother.

I am hoping...to give birth soon. I am hoping!!! I am hoping!!! I am hoping!!!

I am hearing...Matthew, Cayla, and Lucas playing Settlers of Catan and the crackling of the fire.

Around the house...Tim, Larah, and Katie are in bed, the above mentioned are continuing their game, and here I sit. The spring cleaning is complete and we are ready for our family from Texas to come for a visit tomorrow.

One of my favorite things...is learning new things about myself. God is at work in my life and although some changes are needed, I am excited about what He is doing. I am sure to suffer through some growing pains, but I will be growing with the One who created me and sustains my life. How exciting is that???

A few plans for the rest of the week...there is absolutely nothing on the calendar. We will be busy enjoying Josh, Kathy and Jonathan....and hopefully Baby Sam.

Carrots Galore

The kids spent some time yesterday processing carrots from our garden that were planted last year. They have remained in the ground all winter and now they are absolutely sweet and delicious. After the processing procedure was complete, I decided I'd better get to using some carrots...for there was an abundant amount. So last night's dinner preparations consisted of Carrot and Rice Casserole (which turned out to be mighty fine), Carrot Raisin Salad, and Carrot Cake for dessert. We still have a ton of carrots. Do you have any recipes worth sharing?

MARCH 9, 2009

Outside My Window...it is still dark. We have a new dusting of snow on the cold ground.

I am thinking...that the coffee I am brewing smells mighty fine. I am hoping to enjoy a cup by myself before the kids start rising from their beds.

From the learning rooms...we are taking this week off to get some things done around the house. Lucas will keep up with his reading and Justin will continue to work on his deadlines, but other than that we are on Spring "Cleaning" Break.

I am thankful for...each one of my children. They bless me daily.

From the kitchen...I'm thinking about making French Breakfast Puffs for breakfast (depending on how long this post takes), left over spaghetti for lunch and baked potatoes for dinner. We will delight in fresh carrots from our garden as a snack.

I am wearing...my Cabela's slippers and a purple dress that my husband finds simply unattractive. He only has to suffer through it for about one more week. Then it will be no more. This purple piece of flowing cloth is very comfy and non confining...important criteria in the last weeks of pregnancy.

I am creating...a response to an email that I received this past week. A response that heeds much thought, prayer and guidance from the Lord.

I am going...to enjoy my last few moments, hours, days of being pregnant. There is no feeling like the feeling of life inside my body. I am really, really, really ready to hold our son, but I am saddened to be done being pregnant. Only our Creator God knows if I will experience such life inside me again. I want to cherish every moment.

I am reading...still working on Mother. It is an easy read and it isn't very long, but I rarely take the time to sit down and just read.

I am hoping...to have a productive and happy week. Even though we are cleaning all week, I am hoping to have fun with great attitudes.

I am hearing...the hum of my computer and the fridge. My house is extremely and unusually quiet.

Around the house...all the children are sleeping. SHHHHH.....

One of my favorite things...a genuine smile.

A few plans for the rest of the week...hopefully a haircut, spring cleaning, AWANAs, a Laura appointment, a cleaning day with my friend Jodie Kyodie and enjoying my home, kiddos and husband.

Proof We Live in a Small Town

Today I had the privilege of traveling (out town) with Matthew, Katie, and Larah. Our plans included going to WalMart to do some grocery shopping, stopping by a McDonald's to order a snack for the girls (they were given McDonald dollars for Valentine's Day by their really sweet and thoughtful Mamaw D.), and then on to see Baby Sam at Ms. Laura's.

Katie was curious as to what order we were going to do our errands. She kept asking me about going to the Chinese place. After her asking about 5 times, I became a bit irritated as to why she kept asking about Chinese. There was absolutely no Chinese place mentioned in my plans. I had already told her time and time again...WalMart, Mickey D's, and Laura's...in that order.

Finally after listening to her (not only hearing her but actually listening to her) I realized that she thought McDonald's was a Chinese restaurant. I'm pretty certain that goes to show we don't get out much. My 4-year old doesn't even know about McDonald's. Do we live a sheltered life or what???

The Simple Woman's Daybook

THE SIMPLE WOMAN’S DAYBOOK
FOR TODAY MARCH 2, 2009


Outside My Window...the sun has set, ALL the snow is melted, and it is about 50 degrees.


I am thinking...and wondering about my mom. I am about to have a baby in a couple of weeks and I wonder what it will be like without my mom. She has severed our relationship and I wonder what emotions I will feel at the birth of our son.


From the learning rooms…things are being accomplished. Although, we are preparing to take a few weeks off to get ready for Samuel and company coming. It is a nice time to take a break as spring (I think) is soon to arrive.

I am thankful for...my new furniture and my most wonderful husband who bought it for me. And another big PRAISE GOD!!! We paid cash!



From the kitchen...we had a Mexican casserole for dinner (made by my great friend, Kendra). An apple pie is on the counter cooling down awaiting the kids to finish up their schoolwork.


I am wearing...a black dress and my slippers. Not looking too great, but I am comfortable.


I am going...about the house these days in great anticipation of having a baby. So many thoughts flood my mind...How will labor and delivery go? What time of the day will this child enter our world? What is he going to look like? How big will he be? What will his cry sound like? What will the kids think? Will he be our last? How will Larah adjust to not being our "baby"?...the list of questions goes on and on.


I am reading...Mother.


I am hoping...my sister and her husband are having a great time in Napa Valley. I miss talking to her, but am so glad the two of them were able to get away together...alone.


I am hearing...Lucas and Cayla at the kitchen table working on school work. Katie and Larah in the living room playing. Katie is being fairly quiet while Larah is being VERY loud. Imagine that.


Around the house...things are in somewhat of an order. We need to do some deep, spring cleaning but for the most part everything is organized. All of Samuel's clothes are washed and folded. Now I just have to find a place to put them as I don't have a dresser for him yet. The carseat and diaper bag are ready to go.


One of my favorite things...is a spur-of-the-moment lunch with a friend. I was blessed with such today.



A few plans for the rest of the week...a dentist appointment for three kids, a midwife appointment, grocery shopping, more spring cleaning, school with the kids, a trip to the library, and AWANAs.

Spring is Springing

The last two nights Tim and I have gone to bed with our bedroom window cracked open. And the last two mornings, as I wake up, I have been able to lay in bed and listen to the birds sing. It has been wonderful to hear such melodies after a long, long winter.

Thank you Heavenly Father for the beauty and simplicity of birds. I have received such joy and peace listening to them in the early mornings. Your creations are amazingly beautiful and uplifting.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FEBRUARY 23, 2009

Outside My Window...it is dark, foggy and raining. It is nice to have most of the snow melted and warmer temperatures. The sun has even been out the last couple of days.

I am thinking...that Patty Ann is a very kind, sweet, and thoughtful friend. We received a package in the mail today from her and it was awesome. She sent a candle and oh my...it is divine. Thank you, Patricia, for thinking of us. You are so very cool.

From the learning rooms…Last week was busy, busy, busy, so not a lot of school was completed. I am hoping this week much more will be accomplished. I don't like looking in my daily planner and seeing blank days.

I am thankful for...my one on one time with Larah this evening. We hung out in her room. I organized and put away clothes while she played with her two baby dolls. We made a fort on her bed that she found very entertaining. We also listened to music and danced.

From the kitchen...not too much happened today. We had homemade waffles for breakfast, leftovers for lunch and chicken noodle soup with pretzel balls for dinner. It was a fairly quiet and easy day in the kitchen.

I am wearing...capris, socks, short sleeve shirt and a denim long sleeve shirt. I am very comfy and warm.

I am creating...organization. I am trying to get my house in order before the birth of Samuel and the arrival of Josh, Kathy and Jonathan.

I am going...to rest everyday for two hours and drink lots of water. Orders by Laura and Tim....NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

I am reading...Mother.

I am hoping...that we find some new couches soon. We have been looking on Craigslist and have found a few, but so far nothing has worked out. We have a couple of more weeks to search for just the right ones.

I am hearing..."Cry Out to Jesus" on the stereo and the clickety-clack of the dryer.

Around the house...Larah is in bed and the rest of the Washington Walkers are gone to Morton. They should be home soon. It is wonderful to have the house all to myself...but it will be nice when they return.

One of my favorite things...is my well used Whirley Pop Popcorn Popper. I can't imagine life without it. Although, I am completely out of popcorn, so I am unable to use it at this time. Life can be so sad sometimes!!!

A few plans for the rest of the week...school and spring cleaning, I have a Laura appointment (our much loved midwife), Cayla has an ortho appointment and we all have movie night on Friday. Other than that not too much is happening this week.

She Made Me Smile

For those of you who know Larah personally know that leaving her alone for an undetermined amount of time is not a wise move. For my sanity and for her safety. She is a wonderful little girl who was designed by our good God with a very curious and fearless mind. She does things like sharpen her finger in a hand-held pencil sharpener or drink water from the fish bowl because she's a dog.

Well...tonight I sent her into the bathroom to go potty. She had on a dress so I knew she could handle this task all by her "big" self. After about 5 or 6 minutes I clued in that the bathroom light was still on and that she hadn't yet returned to the kitchen. I soon became aware of an eerie silence that filled the room. I traveled down the hallway at great speed.

I imagined her sucking the toothpaste tube til it was so empty it was sucked inside out. I envisioned her painting the bathroom walls with every bottle of shampoo/body wash in our shower. I could see her making "baskets" in the toilet with all her rubber bands and barrettes. I pictured her collecting "pieces" from each brush and stashing them away for her future use.

But when I walked into the bathroom I was both shocked and pleased. She was sitting on the toilet with toilet paper in hand. "Larah, poop, Mama, Larah, poop." She was doing exactly what she was supposed to be doing....all by her "big" self. What a relief and a blessing.

THE SIMPLE WOMAN’S DAYBOOK
FOR TODAY FEBRUARY 16, 2009

Outside My Window...the sun is shining and the snow is almost gone. YIPEE!!! YIPEE!!! YIPPEE!!! Our yard is pretty messy from all the cold and snow. I think the kids might have a clean up party soon.

I am thinking...that this morning was a most excellent morning. Much needed.

From the learning rooms…school is a happenin'. All kids are doing great. Matthew is taking a break from geography while he waits on his wonderful mother to make copies of the next book. Cayla is waiting for a new grammar book...it should arrive in the mail this week. Other than that, all students are working on task.

I am thankful for...the sunshine, my husband, my children, my new car (paid for with cash), homeschooling, our church family, a potty trained 2-year old, salvation, friends.

From the kitchen...we had homemade waffles with eggs for breakfast. Not too sure about lunch and dinner. Maybe for dinner I'll make some potato soup and biscuits.

I am wearing...plaid, flannel jammy pants (Al would be impressed) and a grey short sleeve shirt. My hair is up in a ponytail and I have my favorite Costco socks on my toasty feet. Nothing beats Costco socks on a cold day.

I am creating...a spring cleaning/fix-it list.

I am reading...over notes from last night's Foundations class and Lucas' language book.

I am hoping...to get organized for this baby that is due to arrive in 29 days. I have nothing ready. I need to wash his clothes and blankets, get his bed ready, buy diapers, get the car seat out of storage, and a lot of other little things. I have been putting all this off because of lack of space. Where in the world am I going to put everything?

I am hearing...the hustle and bustle of a busy household...the washer and dryer, the kitchen sink water running, the kids talking, and the fire crackling.


Around the house...spring cleaning has started. With the arrival of Samuel upon us and plans of family coming for a visit, I figured I'd better get busy. The kids received "the talk" this past weekend about the upcoming cleaning plans. And let me tell you...they are thrilled.


One of my favorite things...is seeing my husband teach. It is his gifting. He teaches with passion and humility causing his students to learn easily.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Lucas has a friend coming over this afternoon (if he gets his school work done), Cayla, Katie and I are going to a friend's house tomorrow for a coloring party, school with the kids, more spring cleaning, AWANA's on Thursday night, hopefully a trip to Jan's on Friday.

A Reason for Celebration

I've known for years that this day has to happen. I knew it was coming and I knew it was coming soon. There is no way around it. There is no pretending that it isn't here. There is no wishing it away. There is no amount of control that can make it be gone. While half of me is rejoicing, the other half of me is sad. I am forcing myself to focus on the joy instead of being overtaken with sadness.

Justin took his driving test today. He passed. He is now recognized as a legal driver in the State of Washington. He has purchased his first vehicle and he is gone. Not gone GONE, but gone. He is growing up and there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop it. He is exploring his freedom and he is loving it.

My heart breaks because he has wings and he knows how to use them. I know, I know, I know. I know this is what parents do. I know the day every child is born is one day closer to their release. I know parents raise their children to give them wings that allow them to fly. And this is what Tim and I have done. We have given Justin his wings and he is flying.

As his mom, I have several choices on how I can handle this life changing circumstance. I can be sad and dwell there. I can tell him "No, you can't go," knowing he'll go anyway, sooner or later. I can live in denial, but what will that gain me or him? Or I can celebrate.

I choose to celebrate. I choose to rejoice that Justin is growing up. I choose to rejoice that he has wings. I choose to not damage or break those wings. I choose to let go and rejoice, knowing that I serve a God who loves him so much more than I....a God that is his ultimate provider and protector.

Thank you Father God for Justin and for his life. I thank you and praise you for creating him, maturing him and protecting him. Thank you for giving him this step to becoming a man. Father, please guide and direct me, as his mom, in this process of letting go. It is happening and even though I rejoice and celebrate, it is a bit scary. But my trust remains in You.

Outside My Window...the sun is slowly peaking up over the mountains. There has been talk of more snow, but so far there are no signs of any yet.

I am thinking...how awesome our family is. Lots of people think we are crazy for having so many kids, and aren't afraid to say so, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.....well, there are those days.

From the learning rooms…we are busy, busy, busy.

I am thankful for...my new laundry room light. Tim and Matthew installed it for me this past weekend and I can't wait to get back there and do laundry. They replaced one 60-watt bulb with two 4-feet fluorescent bulbs. How cool is that?

From the kitchen...oatmeal and apple slices for breakfast. Sandwiches for lunch. Baked Chicken and mashed potatoes for dinner.

I am wearing...sweatpants and a bright pink shirt (not my color).

I am creating...Valentine's notes.

I am going...commuter car shopping with Tim tomorrow. For those of you who read my last post...he was just joking. He does indeed think that car is cool, but not for his wife. He will take great care of me and get me something more up my alley. I'll be sure and post a pictures if we come home with a find.

I am reading...not too much.

I am hoping...to be kinder and sweeter in word and deed. I think I take life too seriously and I can get pretty uptight. I am trying to loosen up a bit and go with the flow a little more. This is going to take time and much concentration...but I am hoping.

I am hearing...Madagascar 2 in the background. I put it in for Larah and Katie so I can get this done before starting breakfast.

Around the house...Tim has gone to his office, Katie and Larah are sitting in his recliner...snuggling with their blanket and each other, and the rest of the kids are still sleeping. I am trying to get this post done before they wake up.

Hey Babe,

Just want to let you know that I was thinking about you and that I love you. I'm sorry you were up a lot last night, but I am very glad that you are carrying our baby. See you soon.

A few plans for the rest of the week...putting in the co-op order is on the top of my list. School with the kids and a day with Tim. Other than that it should be a fairly quiet week spent at home.

A New Commuter???

Whenever I receive an email from Tim my heart always skips a beat. It means he's been thinking of me and took time out of his busy work schedule to send a little love my way. This morning I received such an email (or so I thought) and as normal, my heart started to flutter. I continued on with such a wonderful feeling until I opened the email. And this, my dear friends, is what I found...

1975 TOYOTA COROLLA WAGON VERY CLEAN, VERY GOOD RUNNING , NO OIL BURNING OR LEAKS AND NO SMOKE!!!!!! THIS CAR IS A COOL CLASSIC!!! EVERYTHING WORKS...LIGHTS, EVERYTHING....$1995 OBO!!! IT'S JUST A VERY COOL CAR!!!
Now, I am not a snob and I do not need or require the finer things in life. And I am most positive (to the right person...like my teenage son) this car is indeed "A VERY COOL CAR!!!" But somehow this just isn't what I had in mind when Tim started talking about buying me a commuter.

THE SIMPLE WOMAN’S DAYBOOK

Outside My Window...it is dark and cold. The night sky is clear with millions of shining stars glowing brightly.

I am thinking...that my get away tonight was just what I needed. (Thanks, Tim, for making it possible. You are the best!!!) Lolanda and I met up for some Mexican food and a movie. We watched Marley and Me at the Roxy. It is a movie I highly recommend. It is so refreshing to see a movie that highlights strong family values.

From the learning rooms…school, in general, is going well. Lucas has moved on to two more books this week. He made a 100% on his spelling test last week. Cayla and Matthew each finished up one book and are waiting to get started in the next one. Justin is still on schedule and will be done with his school year in March. Katie is asking me daily if she can do school.

I am thankful for...my washer and dryer. I had to take our king-sized comforter to the laundry mat tonight. The giant washer I needed was out of order, but I did notice that a normal load of laundry cost $4.25 a load. $4.25 a load. That's highway robbery. It did make me very, very thankful for my set.

From the kitchen...a few grocery are in need of being put away. Justin is currently helping himself to a bowl of cereal. Other than that it is quite and clean.

I am wearing...a denim shirt, capris and socks. Hair up in a pony tail. I'm not looking so hot, but I am comfy and warm.

I am creating...the same thing as last week.

I am going...to beat the next boy/man that makes my house stink. I am serious. They are AWFUL!!! NO MORE BEANS!!!

I am reading...not as much as I would like. I love to read, however I don't seem to find the time to do it.

I am hoping...that my friend, who just yesterday told me she is pregnant, has a boy. She needs a boy! She needs a boy! She needs a boy! Of course we all know God is in charge, but I am so hopeful for a boy!!!

I am hearing...the thumping of the dryer and Tim, Cayla, Matthew, and Lucas behind me playing The Settlers of Catan. Let me tell you...the game is addicting. I love it, even though I have yet to win. I have come close twice but not yet. I will not give up.

Around the house...the little girls are in bed fast asleep, Justin is doing school, Ginger is in her kennel dreaming (of me), and the others are at the table playing the game. It is a pleasant, relaxing evening in the Walker home.

One of my favorite things... is my midwife appointments. Every appointment I get to hear Samuel Isaiah's heart beat and see him on the sonogram machine. It brings me such joy and peace to see him moving and growing inside me. He is already just so cool!!! Only 44 days til my due date.

A few plans for the rest of the week...school with the kids everyday, tax appointment on Tuesday, midwife appointment and grocery shopping on Wednesday, trip to the library on Thursday, preparations for a baby shower on Friday, baby shower on Saturday, Second Sunday Soup and Sandwich Social on Sunday.

For the Love of "C"

Lori, over at Ramblings and Reflections of a Not-So-Superwoman, is doing a fun meme. She has assigned me the letter “C” and so I am taking the challenge.

Things I Love Starting with the Letter “C”

1. Christ…He is my Savior, my redeemer, my comforter, my friend, my peace in the midst of life’s storms.
2. Candles…as I sit here and blog I have 5 Crème Brule candles (my all-time favorite) lit behind me. 4 tea lights and 1 votive. Mary's Candles are Simply The Best Candles Made!!!
3. Cats…but unfortunately my husband does not. I will continue to be forever hopeful, though!!!
4. Cash…v. credit. We used to have several credit cards and material things bought on credit. But, with the Lord’s conviction and direction, combined with Tim’s strong leadership abilities, we are credit card free. We are able to pay cash for everything. If we can’t…we don’t buy it. True FREEDOM!!!
5. C.L.A.S.S.…Christian Liberty Academy School System. This is the homeschool curriculum we use for high school. It was and continues to be a HUGE answer to prayer.
6. Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup…there is nothing I want more when I am down and out with a cold. It warms my body and even though it may be psychological, it makes me feel instantly better.
7. Clothes…this needs no explanation.
8. Cards…I love to give and I love to receive. I have been known to spend ridiculous amounts of time standing in the card section of a store. I tend to lean toward the sweet, sentimental, sappy type.
9. Cuddlin’…every morning Katie and Larah wake up right around 7:00. It is our routine to cuddle and snuggle for at least 10 minutes before we begin our days. Very few things are finer than cuddlin’ with my girls.
10. Conversations with a friend…Tim being on the top of my list and then on down to all those special people God has abundantly placed in my life. Good conversations make friendships sweeter and stronger.

THE SIMPLE WOMAN’S DAYBOOK

JANUARY 26, 2009

Outside My Window...the snow continues to melt at a very slow rate. The sun is shining and it is a whoopin' 34 degrees. At this rate the snow might still be here in June.


I am thinking...I love home. I love doing home things...cleaning, cooking, laundry, school with the kids, being a wife to Tim. There is no place I'd rather be.


From the learning rooms…Lucas took the day off to be with his Papa. Justin, Matthew, and Cayla are wrapping up their school day. Cayla and I did a fun project for geography in the bathroom that included a globe and a flashlight. We had fun and she was able to do a hands-on activity about night and day.


I am thankful for...marvelous Mondays and warm fires.


From the kitchen...not much is happening yet. Tim and Lucas did grocery shopping today so when they get home the kitchen will get quite busy.


I am wearing...capris and a sweatshirt. I absolutely love being pregnant...but I am ready to wear my normal clothes again. Everything I put on feels so confining.


I am creating...nothing.


I am going...to clean our room after writing this post. Monday at our house is 'clean sheet' day. So I figure this is a good time to clean our room. I know Tim will appreciate a clean, fresh room when he gets home after being gone out in the big, bad world all day.


I am reading...Naked Fruit, A Woman God Can Use and my Bible.


I am hoping...that Tim's brother and family come for a visit in March. We haven't seen them in quite sometime and it would be great to get together. I need to get my hands on Baby Jonathan. If they do come, it will be the week of March 16th. I am due March 17th. Could get pretty interesting in the Walker home.


I am hearing...Larah and Katie playing behind me on the kitchen table, the hum of the dryer, Justin and Cayla conversing in the hallway, and the crackling of the fire.


Around the house...everything is as it should be. With one exception...Tim and Lucas are not here with us. But Tim just phoned and they will be home in about 1 1/2 hours. I can't wait.


One of my favorite things...is receiving gifts just because. Two weeks ago, my midwife gave me 12 creme brulle candles and 4 candle holders. She got them from Pier One Imports just because when she saw them she thought of me. How very cool! Then this past week, I received in the mail a cookbook from my brother-in-law's mother-in-law. It is one of those really fun church cookbooks with hundreds of tried and true recipes. How very cool!


A few plans for the rest of the week...I don't really have any special plans for this week. My calendar is empty. I would like to take Katie on a date. I have some stuff to take to the thrift store and a coupon for a buy one adult dinner, get one kids dinner free...we might have to kill two birds with one stone.

A Post Just Because

Because I want to blog and I have nothing of great importance to blog about, I am going to share some random tidbits of life from the Washington Walkers home.

~~I miss our friends, Karen and David. They came into our lives about 5-6 years ago, but have since moved away. They are the kind of people that love just to love and they loved our family, especially the kids. Well they still love our family but now they do it with a distance of 2000 plus miles between us. Life is sometimes not fair.

~~Justin, Matthew, Cayla, Audrey, Lucas, Tim, Robert, and Katie are currently sitting at the kitchen table playing Settlers of Catan. It is a new game we came across when we were conferencing at Cannon Beach. Tim fell in love with it, came home, and ordered it for our family. It is a different sort of game, but one full of action and adventure that most of our family can play.

~~Last week Katie Jane fell asleep with gum in her mouth. And guess what? She awoke with a big, nasty wad of gum and tangles in her beautiful, long locks. I was only a bit successful at getting it out with peanut butter. Unfortunately, I did have to cut some of her hair, but Papa hasn't noticed...so all is well.
~~Tim and I trekked to Exit 111 this past Wednesday...just the two of us. It was a spur of the moment, spontaneous act that both of us were glad we decided to do. Exit 111 ensures the utmost pleasurable shopping experience. It consists of Home Depot, Costco, Sportsman's Warehouse, Wal-Mart, Office Max, Cold Stone Creamery, Harley Davidson, and most importantly...Cabela's!!! Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!!! On this particular day, we only visited Cabela's and I came away with two new (very needed) coats and a pair of wool gloves. I felt very spoiled and loved.

~~When we get out of debt, we are going to take the family to The Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound, Washington to celebrate our new found freedom. Last week we were able to take 150 rocks out of our rock jar...representing $1500 of debt paid off. I thank God often for His wisdom and guidance in leading us in this direction. I also thank Him for a husband who is leading and teaching his family about smart financial decisions.

~~I am out of thoughts and Tim is now laying beside me in bed reading WORLD magazine. He is patiently waiting for his laptop so he can check his email. I am signing off and saying...Good Night, Sleep Tight and Don't Let the Bedbugs Bite. Alright?

Outside My Window...it is dark and about 35 degrees. Snow still covers most of ground.

I am thinking...that Cayla is going to grow up and own a pet store. She went to town with Lolanda today and came home with 5 more fish. For a list of ALLLLLLL her pets, click here to read her most recent post.

From the learning rooms…I am excited to say we are back at it….and it feels great. I have done some one-on-one with Matthew these last few days and our time together has been wonderful. Lucas is finishing up a couple of his books and moving on to new ones. That is always fun and exciting. Cayla stays busy from sun up to sun down. Between taking care of her pets and completing school, her days are pretty filled. Justin is working toward deadlines and is succeeding. He will finish high school this year. YIPPEE!!! Even Katie is progressing through her workbooks. She loves letters and does a fine job of cutting and gluing.

I am thankful for…the women in my oldest daughter’s life. Cayla has been blessed with several Godly women who love her and delight in spending time with her. Every third Thursday she goes to a friend’s house in Packwood. They make crafts, play games, eat snacks and just enjoy each other’s company. This past Sunday she went home with our friend, Barbara. They spent the afternoon taking a walk, playing Scrabble and watching Hogan’s Heroes. Then today, she went to the “big city” with my good friend, Lolanda. They drove to Seattle…doing a little of this and a little of that. Thank you, Father, for providing excellent role models for my precious daughter.

From the kitchen...breakfast consisted of a most excellent Oatmeal Cake served with cold milk, lunch was a smorgasbord of leftovers, and dinner was an elk roast served with noodles. Right now, the kitchen is closed for the day…the dishes are done and the lights are out.

I am wearing...gray sweatpants and a navy blue sweatshirt. Comfy, warm, and non-confining.

I am creating...nothing. Not a single thing. I am a boring person when it comes to creativity.

I am going...to stop and take my nightly dose of pills before I forget. I’ll be right back. Okay, they’re down. Want a list of what I take??? One prenatal vitamin (for obvious reasons), two vitamin C’s (to prevent sickness and for other personal reasons), one Omega 3 Fish Oil (to stop my hair from falling out…it works), three Calcium Magnesium Zinc with Vitamin D (to help with the everyday aches and pains of pregnancy) and I usually take one Spirolina, but I am fresh out.

I am reading...Can We Talk by Priscilla Shirer (YEA…it finally arrived in the mail today) and A Woman God Can Use by Alice Mathews. Does my book list look a bit familiar, CDJ?

I am hoping...that my friend Jodie has her baby soon. She is due tomorrow and is ready. I wonder if this baby is a boy or girl. I'm voting for BOY!!!

I am hearing...the hum of my computer and the clickety-clack of the dryer. Hubby and all children, but one, are tucked in bed. At this very moment my house is amazingly quiet. Tim wanted me to join him in bed soon, but I might just have to sit here and enjoy the peace and quiet. WOW~this is nice.

Around the house...bodies are slumbering…getting rested for a new day.

January 12, 2009

Outside My Window...it is dark and dreary. The yard is still covered in snow...the ugly kind of snow that was once bright white. Because it has been on the ground so long it is now covered with dirt and mud.

I am thinking...there is no place like home...there is no place like home...there is no place like home.

From the learning rooms…school resumes Thursday. We might start slow tomorrow and Wednesday, but we will hit it hard on Thursday. I have a feeling it is going to be extremely difficult to get back into the routine of things. Good, but hard.

I am thankful for...Justin. Today is his 18th birthday. Happy Birthday, My Son! You are such an incredible gift from God. I take great pleasure in watching you grow in God as you allow Him to form and mold you into His man. You are awesome!

From the kitchen...are some clean and some dirty dishes. Remains of homemade donuts and pizza still clutter the counter tops. The floor is spotted with bits of melted snow.

I am wearing...gray sweatpants and a blue-hooded sweatshirt. Bare feet and hair up in a ponytail.

I am creating...a grocery list. Not very exciting, but something that has to be done before Wednesday. I'm sure my family will be grateful.

I am going...to drink coffee from my new mug tomorrow morning. Lolanda went to Roatan, Honduras and brought us all back gifts. My gift was a huge, happy coffee mug that will bring me great joy to use.

I am reading...Naked Fruit by Elisa Morgan. I started this book at the beach and had to leave it at the Conference Center because I borrowed it from their library. I looked on Amazon.com today and I can order it for $4.00, which I will do soon. While at the beach, I bought and read a book called Naked On God's Doorstep. It is a memoir written by Marion Duckworth. It was full of great encouragement for those who were abandoned as children. I love to see how God works in people's lives and uses them to bless others. His ways are creative and so right!

I am hoping...that God will use me this week. Not for my glory, but for His. I am also hoping to start a journal. I have started several in the past and I only keep at it for a short period of time. I would like to discipline myself to write daily...even if only a sentence or two.

I am hearing...the sounds of our VERY LOUD home entertainment center, an occasional comment from Matthew, Justin, Audrey, and Tim about the Hogan's Heroes episode they are watching, my pecking at the keyboard, and the crackling of the fire.

Around the house...4 wonderful people are sleeping and 4 different, but equally wonderful people are watching Hogan's Heroes. I am sitting here at the computer wondering what picture I am going to share.

One of my favorite things...is this baby that God has miraculously placed in my womb. He was quite active this morning and Tim was able to feel him moving all around. The thought of labor and delivery almost sounds exciting. For on the other side of all the discomfort and pain, I will be able to hold our son, NT. What a long-awaited and glorious day that will be. 64 days til my due date. Yee-Haw!!!

Katie Jane and Papa were getting ready to go do the chores at the farm. Katie was excited and eager to help, but she was soon cold and very, very ready to come home. Upon her return, I had her ready a warm fire and a cup of hot chocolate.

Cannon Beach or Bust

Today was a good day. The Washington Walkers left snow covered Randle around 9:30 A.M. and we were out of Morton by 10:02…headin’ west/southwest toward the Oregon coast. We stopped in Longview for some fine midday dining at La Hacienda Real and then went on to WinCo to pick up some groceries. Before departing Longview, we visited a Starbucks where I wet my whistle with a Grande Green Tea Frappuccino and Tim sipped on a Grande Triple Shot Mocha. We made a few other pit stops along the way and pulled into Cannon Beach about 4:00.

The van ride here was enjoyable…some sleeping, some laughing, some singing, some talking, some listening, and some moments of silence. We all were entertained with a couple of episodes of Jonathan Park…The Adventure Begins (Vision Forum)….a most excellent way to help the time pass while traveling for long periods of time. During the 3rd episode, our CD player started to act up so we weren’t able to finish it. We will be kept in suspense until further ado.

Upon arrival in Cannon Beach, we checked in at the Conference Center and came straight to our room. We are staying in the Tides Building, room 201, a room that sleeps 8 and is just perfect for our family. We have a small kitchenette complete with fridge and microwave.

Soon after the van was unloaded, Justin, Matthew, and Lucas ventured off on their bikes to go exploring. They found a candy store and came back with bags of goodies. Tim, Katie, and Cayla walked down to the ocean where Katie found lots of “treasures”. Larah and I stayed behind and organized our home away from home. We put groceries away and found places for everyone’s stuff. Larah was excited to get her own drawer on her level. She joyfully put all her clothes away. Waiting for the family to return, Larah and I made a tent and played blocks…we looked out the window and cuddled on the bed.

Once everyone was back in our room, we cleaned up and went out for dinner. Mo’s was the restaurant of choice for tonight’s meal. And a fine choice it was. Tim and I had some delicious halibut (mine deep fried, his blackened) and the kids had a variety of other sea food…cod, oysters, clams and shrimp. Our waitress was pleasantly helpful and very attentive to the kids, which is always a blessing. After dinner, we came back to Room 201 where some played Blockus and others colored. Then all but Matthew, Larah, and I went down to the recreation center to play games and hang out. Matthew and Larah are now fast asleep and Tim and the girls just returned from playing putt-putt and kick ball. Justin and Lucas are still down at the rec. center, hanging out and being brothers.

I won’t be able to post this until tomorrow as we don’t have the password to get connected to the wireless network. But tomorrow will soon be here and so for now it is.....Good Night and Sleep Tight.
